The joy of a healthy lifestyle can be found in the small victories. It’s easy to get sedentary and start accumulating weight, especially during the holidays.
There are many of us who make plans to get in shape at the start of the new year but quickly fall off the wagon because we struggle to find the time to make it to the gym, or aren’t sure how to put together a good routine.
Although maintaining a workout routine is not always easy, I’ve put together some tips and tricks to make it easier, and I’m sharing some great YouTube channels for you to check out.
Getting in Shape Tips and Tricks
1. Find the Right Exercises for You
If you are new to fitness or are trying to change your routine, don’t overwhelm yourself by tackling too much at once. Instead of committing to an entire workout routine at the gym, start with walking or bicycling every day until you feel comfortable enough to move on.
2. Exercise Daily Before Noon
This will help your body get the most out of your workout. Cortisol, a hormone that breaks down muscle tissue, is released at its highest levels during the day. So if you can manage to work out before noon, you’ll be less likely to store any extra fat and more likely to see results from your workouts.
3. Incorporate Strength Training
Strength training not only tones your body but can also help you lose weight. When you lift weights, your muscles are forced to work harder and, as a result, burn more calories. In addition, because muscle tissue burns more calories than fat tissue even when at rest, you’ll continue to see results even after you finish your workout.
4. Make Friends With the Scale
Don’t be afraid of the scale! If you are trying to lose weight, you need to know how much progress you are making. Weighing yourself regularly will help keep you on track and motivated to reach your goals.
5. Take a Break
If you are struggling with your fitness routine, take a breather to re-evaluate your goals. Maybe you are burning yourself out by working too much or not getting the results you want because you aren’t eating right. Remember that to get fit, it takes dedication and discipline, but most importantly, you need to have fun.
